Salary Range: $88,000 To $110,000 Annually

This position is responsible for the management, timeliness and accuracy of accounting and financial records for specified functions and to lead the department in fulfilling the financial requirements of Great Clips, Inc. and its affiliates. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting policies, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial data is available.

Your Mission

On your journey, you will face challenges such as:

  • Assists with preparing management financial statements and analyzing and interpreting results. Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structures. Assist with management and oversight of the daily transactional operations of the accounting department for assigned areas by preparing journal entries, researching transactions, reconciling accounts, creating spreadsheets and investigating variances. Acts as a liaison between the payroll position in Human Resources to coordinate, post and reconcile payroll entries and vendor payments and reconcile payroll related general ledger accounts. Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of payroll accounting concepts and chart of accounts.
  • Review all new FASB pronouncements and work with external auditors to determine proper application of the pronouncements.  Act as the lead in all external audit and review functions, including the annual audit. Assists in developing, maintaining and implementing new policies, procedures and process improvements to enhance the workflow of the department and strengthen internal controls.
  • Act as the administrator of the financial statement reporting and analytics software(s), including maintenance of users, designing reports, maintaining accounting structures, managing monthly and annual maintenance tasks to ensure proper reporting, leading upgrades and coordinating with the Finance team to ensure consistency across platforms and data accuracy is maintained.
  • Performs reconciliations for assigned general ledger and bank accounts and prepares necessary journal entries.
  • Manage the sales and use tax function to ensure compliance and accurate and timely returns are filed. Manages the relationship with the Business Central sales tax ISV. Mentor staff filing assigned returns and troubleshoot as needed. Maintain the sales and use tax spreadsheet and reconcile the sales tax liability to the general ledger monthly. Support the tax manager as needed for sales tax audits. Determine registration requirements for new jurisdictions.
  • Manages the vendor relationships for various accounting programs, including the expense reporting and corporate credit card programs. Periodically reviews functionality and leads vendor changes, upgrades or conversions when necessary.
  • Manage the selection, training, goal planning, assessment and development of direct reports to assure maximum effectiveness, motivation, and retention of employees. Collaborate with other accounting department managers to support overall department goals and objectives. Monitor, analyze and audit direct staff’s work to identify areas for staff development, develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to listen, earn trust, and accept direct feedback from franchisees while building strong, positive relationships.

Your Expertise

To land this job you will need to demonstrate, and/or possess the following:

  • Four-year degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in accounting, auditing or related occupation. Prior supervisory experience is required.  
  • Advanced technology skills, including the ability to develop and model financial information using Excel including experience with pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, external data source connections, linking tables, and advanced formulas. Two to three years of experience using a financial general ledger ERP system, including the ability to build queries/reports and analyze results.
  • Knowledge of various types of accounts and accounting entries; ability to post, verify, and balance debit and credit entries, reconcile accounts, prepare journal entries, maintain journals and ledgers; ability to integrate various journal and ledger entries and balances to create financial statements and reports. Hands-on experience in financial statement preparation is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, and familiarity with FASB and/or GASB standards for financial reporting and knowledge of codification tools for research.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the company, including presenting in small groups and leading effective one-to-one communications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, meet all deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision, working extra hours as needed.
  • Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, high level of attention to detail and accuracy and willingness to take initiative to accomplish tasks.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing and management skills. Proven skill in preparing written materials to develop, initiate and implement new procedures and manage people and process improvements to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • The ability to adapt to changes in processes and growth in business.
  • Ability to listen, earn trust, and accept direct feedback from others while building strong, positive relationships.

Your Work Environment

This is a hybrid work position requiring a combination of in-office workdays and the option to work from home on the remaining days. Working remotely will require reliable, secure internet.

Additional hours may be required during month, and year end close, and other occasionally busy periods throughout the year. There may be opportunity to travel once or twice a year to meetings and conferences.
