Ways to a Stylist's Heart

As a professional hairstylist or barber, you give customers every ounce of your energy. You listen and encourage, offer support and advice, and strive to help every person who sits in your chair look and feel great.

But what about you? What acts of kindness would make you feel loved and supported?

We asked members of the Great Clips® National Design Team to speak up and tell us what makes them smile. Not surprisingly, they had a lot to share on ways to touch the hearts of hard-working stylists.

Tips and Teamwork

“Coffee runs and big tips! As a male stylist/barber, I do like an occasional bouquet of flowers, especially if it comes with a box of chocolates that I can share with my co-stylists (maybe). I also love it when right after a cut, one of my co-workers sweeps up for me.”

Support and Encouragement

“Offering to cover my shift, surprising me with my favorite coffee or energy drink when we open together, leaving cute notes at my station (“nice hair cut!” or “good job with the little kid!”), and finishing a task for me. Also, decorating my station when it’s a special occasion or grabbing my lunch for me.”

    • Arielle

“It’s fun when customers use humor to give compliments, snacks and small tokens of appreciation really brighten our day and show care. Also, a thank you note that expresses gratitude can truly touch my heart.”

    • Zauresh

Snacks, Supplies, and Shoutouts

“Bring me a fresh stack of combs so I don’t have to walk to the back of the salon! But honestly, the way to my heart is by surprising me with either a coffee or better yet, a smoothie! The best 5 words to say to me are, ‘What’s for lunch? My treat!’ I will love you forever!”

    • Addison

“Hyping us up by sharing how much a customer liked a haircut, and little snacks — always!”

    • Tonee

“Complimenting my haircut or how I look, bringing in my favorite snacks, refilling my water bottle between customers, decorating my station for my birthday or anniversary, and remembering special days like my kids’ birthdays.”

    • Dee

“On a busy morning, showing up with coffee or an energy drink to help me get through the day. Or pop up with my favorite snacks! Not the healthy stuff. Bring the chips and cookies, please! Or sweep up the hair and help me get the next customer checked in.”
