Life Outside the Salon

Community outreach and service is a core value of the Great Clips brand. As a 100% franchised company, independently owned Great Clips® salons often encourage their teams to share their time, talents, and resources to do great things. Recently, two stylists from a Philadelphia-area Great Clips salon did just that.  

“A local church in our community hosts a free dinner for anyone who needs it,” said Jenn, area manager for a franchisee who owns and operates Great Clips salons in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware. “Local businesses then volunteer to create the menu, shop for groceries, prepare the meal, serve it, and clean up.” 

When stylists Sara and Jen heard about the program, they decided they wanted to help. With their kids, they planned and prepared a spaghetti and meatball dinner complete with salad and bread.  

“Approximately 50 people showed up,” Jenn said. “For some of the people, it was the only hot meal they’d had in a while. I think Jen and Sara were really surprised by the level of need in the community. Many of us don’t realize how many people near us are really struggling.”  

Acts of service create outward impact, and they also help salon teams build closer, more meaningful relationships. “Service activities can really shape a salon’s culture by giving the team a sense of purpose outside of the salon as they unite around a shared goal,” Jenn said.  

The stylists said it was such a rewarding experience, they are planning to do it again—with a bigger Great Clips salon volunteer team.  

“Working for an independently owned Great Clips salon is about more than just showing up and doing your job,” Jenn said. “It’s about helping to build roots in your community and taking part in feel-good opportunities.”
