5 Ideas for a Great Salon Culture
Who says the salon has to be all work and no play? Happy stylists make happy customers, so adding a little fun to your salon life will brighten the mood in the back room and on the floor.
Here are 5 simple ideas you can put into action to boost your salon culture.
1) Make the back room feel positive
Try to make your back room feel like a safe and inspiring space for your salon team. Keep it clean and clutter-free, so you can put the spotlight on elements that encourage positivity. From motivational wall art and treats to a basket of books or magazines, make the back room a place where your team can relax and recharge.
2) Organize team building activities
A team that has fun together stays together! Offer activities that encourage everyone to work together, get to know each other better, and pursue a greater goal. A quick online search will give you lots of fun options or you can stick to the classics like scavenger hunts and the three truths and a lie game.
3) Have contests with prizes
Who doesn’t love a little competition, especially when there are prizes involved? Contests can be a great tool to overcome salon challenges while having some fun. For instance, if you need to boost product sales or improve salon cleaning, create a BINGO game where each square is an action item such as, “sweep the floor,” or “recommend a hair product.” Prizes don’t have to be big to incentivize participation!
4) Get creative with theme days
Remember Spirit Week at school? Try having a Spirit Day in the salon! Encourage your team to discuss and choose a theme that celebrates the spirit and culture in your salon. From wearing your salon colors to a ‘90s throwback day, let your team’s creativity – and spirit – shine!
5) Celebrate big milestones
This is a big one! Be sure to celebrate birthdays, work anniversaries, promotions, and salon wins! Recognition is a great way to show gratitude, and it’s a huge factor in both salon health and retention. Have your whole team participate in these special days, from signing a congratulatory card for a team member, to enjoying treats together in the back room.
With a little effort, you can make big strides toward creating a happy, positive salon culture. Try a few of these tips and watch your team achieve GREATness!
